Primarily a commercial centre, Vikhroli is now gaining attention as residential projects have started flourishing in the area

One of the suburbs of Mumbai, Vikhroli, is located on the central railway line. Primarily divided into East and West, Kannamwar Nagar, Tagore Nagar, Godrej quarters are the prime residential areas of Vikhroli.
The area has grown in terms of infrastructure like good roads, better electricity, and water supply. New construction is seen in the area as many builders are coming up with residential projects here. It was after the establishment of Godrej Properties that the region gained a new outlook. Developers like Haware Builders, Mayfair Housing have set up their projects here.
From luxury homes to budget homes, today Vikhroli is serving every class of buyers. Mayfair Housing has their projects Mayfair Sonata Greens, and Symphony Springs, which are equipped with modern amenities and better infrastructure. Jayant Gehi, General Manager, Mayfair Housing, says, “Over the years, Vikhroli has seen a lot of development with many business parks and residential complexes coming up here. Vikhroli even has vibrant evening life with malls, gardens, parks and restaurants gearing up to fulfill the requirements of the growing suburb.”
Along with growing housing facilities the suburb even has good educational institutions like Udhaychal High School in Vikhroli (E), Brihan Mumbai Marathi Prathamic Shala, Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli (E), Sandesh College of Arts, Commerce and Science, St. Joseph High School in Vikhroli(W), Vidya Mandir High School,Vikhroli (E),
Vikas High School, Vikhroli (E) and many more. Besides good banks and hospitals it also has restaurants like Kausars Food Delight, Satkar hotel, Mohini restaurant and many malvani restaurants catering to the taste buds of the residents here.
Deepak Waghale, a resident of Vikhroli, says, “I have seen the suburb growing self-sufficient. It was place with no proper approach roads or water supply. Currently Kannamwar Nagar I is seeing more of redevelopment. With good connectivity to the exteriors there are even good auto service for internal movement. In addition, property prices have increased tremendously. Twenty years earlier, a one-room kitchen was available for around Rs 1.5 lakh; the price tag has today increased multiple folds. Also there is no bridge at the railway station which makes commuters cross over the phata to reach the other side.”
In terms of infrastructure, Vikhroli has wide roads, easy connectivity to Powai, LBS Marg that makes it preferred destination. Frequent trains and bus services make it more accessible.
Suresh Haware, MD, Haware Builders, says, “Vikhroli is developing very well. The redevelopment of Vikhroli is very necessary as it is an old colony but with MHADA not having cleared the FSI in this area, the redevelopment process has not taken off yet. Also the redevelopment procedure is quite cumbersome and the government needs to sort it out at the earliest which should further fuel the potential of this place. Vikhroli has the advantage of being adjacent to the highway. It is centrally located and shares close proximity to Thane as well western and central suburbs as well as Navi Mumbai. So the scope for its
development is huge.”
Property Consultant Ashok Kumar, MD, Cresa Partners explains, “Vikhroli was mainly a commercial centre. Now with many projects coming here it has caught the limelight.
“In addition, with the functioning of the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road, along with central suburbs westerns suburbs have also become highly accessible. Also with a price bracket of Rs. 4500 to 7000, buyers can grab a good deal in this growing suburb.”
