FINAL BATCH OF 1,000 ALLOTTEES TO GET PLOTS AFTER EIGHT-YEAR WAIT

Ending an eight-yearlong struggle for allotees of Sectors 76 to 80, SAS Nagar, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) will hold a draw for plots for the final batch of 1,000 allottees on November 6.

Speaking to HT, Balwinder Singh, Additional Chief Administrator, GMADA, said, “The Punjab Chief Minister had recommended October 27 as the date of the draw, but since it is a lengthy process, we decided to hold it on November 6.”

“Due to the status quo on 102 acres in these sectors, development work could not be carried out and possession of plots was not given to applicants.
The possession was delayed as some of the plots, which were under status quo, were allotted. We have already issued the letter of intent to most of the allottees,” Balwinder Singh added.

Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) floated the scheme and acquired 1,264 acres in 2001. Of the 4,000 eligible applicants, draws of plots were held for 3000 applicants, while 1,000 allottees were left due to technical and legal hitches.

Talking to HT , Paramjeet Singh, media adviser of the Plot Allotment Sangharsh Committee, Sectors 76-80, SAS Nagar, said, “We had been struggling hard to get possession of the plots for the past around eight years. We met the Punjab CM and the Chief Administrator, GMADA, and they assured us that the matter would be sorted out soon. We are grateful to the authorities concerned for deciding to hold the draw.”

Most of the allottees are government employees who are residing in rented accommodation. Some are now retired and waiting for possession of plots as they have vacated government accommodation.
