2,700 crore is estimated cost of project; Amtek railcar industry, a Rs 330-crore project, underway in Patiala PROJECT TO BE COMPLETED BY DECEMBER, WILL CREATE 2.75 LAKH JOBS, DLF GM ASSURES PUNJAB CM
DLF Home Development has evinced keen interest in setting up an Industrial Park over 1,200 acres in SAS Nagar district at a cost of Rs 2,700 crore, under Super Mega Mixed Use Industrial Park Policy.
Making a presentation to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at Kapurthala House in Delhi this afternoon, DLF Group Senior General Manager Ajay Chug assured that the group would complete the project by December 2010.
He said that the project would provide direct and indirect employment to 2,75,000 persons.
In another presentation made by the Director Amtek Auto Ltd, Sanjeev Bhasin apprised the chief minister that Amtek Group had already approached the state government for facilitating setting up of their forthcoming mega project, Amtek Railcar Industries Pvt. Ltd.
(ARIPL), for manufacture of different types of wagons for Indian Railways, private operators in India, Southeast Asian market and the Middle East.
He said that Phase-I of the project was being set up in Patiala district, with an investment of Rs 330 crore and a capacity to manufacture 2,400 wagons per annum. This capacity would be enhanced to 3,600 wagons per annum with an additional investment of Rs 220 crore in phase-II of the project.
There is a potential for direct employment of 550 persons and indirect employment of 1,200 persons, he said. Bhasin further informed the chief minister that the Indian Railways had decided to have six Dedicated Freight Corridors to improve the speed of goods trains. Eastern and western corridors connecting Ludhiana to Dankuni and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) have already been sanctioned.
This would add to the requirement of wagons by Indian Railways. He added ARIPL was being set up as a 50:50 joint venture between Amtek Transportation System Ltd., a subsidiary of Amtek Group, and American Railcar Industries of the US, who are world leaders in design and manufacture of wagons with over 1,000 years of experience. The facilities being set up would be state-ofthe-art world’’s best and environment friendly.
The Chief Minister assured both the DLF and Amtek Groups of fulsome support and cooperation on behalf of the state government in setting up the two projects. He said that the new industrial policy-2009 was aimed at attracting investment to the state by ensuring hasslefree clearances to the prospective entrepreneurs.
He also impressed upon the DLF Group Chairman to undertake group housing schemes in different parts of the state for economically weaker sections.
