Bangalore: With just five days to go to pay your property tax, are you dreading long queues at BBMP help centres?
With a little help from your resident welfare association (RWA), you can have the BBMP coming to your doorstep and collecting the taxes of all residents.
They bring the form, help you fill it up, collect the completed form along with the cheque and give you the receipt. A few RWAs and apartment association members are already doing this.
Zaffar Sait, ex-president of Richards Town Residents’ Association, has helped submit a thousand forms from his area. There are 600 apartments in his area alongside a few independent residences. “People are confused when it comes to buying the forms, filling them up and submitting them at the counters. We started on this initiative when there was a shortage of forms at our help centre initially,’’ he explains.
He and a few other association members picked up a thousand forms from the palike office and distributed them to residents in their area, helped them fill them and even assisted in submitting it at the help centre.
Karnataka Hardware and Elite Merchants Association has submitted 200 applications in the past 10 days — those of association members as also residents from surrounding areas like S P Road. “We collect the forms from the individuals and then inform the respective AROs. They come to our house or office and collect them,’’ says association chairman B K Goyal.
The palike also received nearly 500 forms from Marathahalli and a few from Old Madras Road. A majority are from apartment associations. The unit being almost similar in dimensions, and facilities like the online tax calculator, have made it simple for the association to help calculate tax for all. A couple of associations in Malleswaram have also got into this new act recently.
“With such help from RWAs and apartment association members in a few areas, particularly in the newly added areas like Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli, we have started going door-to-door collecting forms and cheques in bulk,’’ BBMP deputy commissioner (resources) U A Vasanth Rao said.
